Community building is an year long effort to cultivate connections among peer mentors and the participants of the program. Spearheaded by the Office of First Year Experience Programs, Global Hoosiers Program will collect and organize campus-wide programs in a monthly newsletter format. The community building programs will be categorized into FYE’s programming emphases: Academic Success, Community Engagement, Leadership Development, Diversity and Social Justice, Personal Well-Being, and Traditions and Cultures of IU. Global Hoosiers Program will fully or partially waive the fees (*limited resources) for any campus events that require students to pay
Global Hoosiers Program will encourage each group of peer mentor-mentees to sign up and participate in at least one community building program per month. The internal sign up system will not only help the program to hold the students accountable but also help them find each other and attend the programs together.
Under the advisorship of FYE, each group of peer mentor-mentees will plan and execute one program throughout the year. This campuswide or student population specific program is to benefit the greater community beyond Global Hoosiers Program. This programming element of community building will not only equip students with communications and event planning skills, but also empower them to become an active member of IU community.
