About
In Provost Lauren Robel’s (2014) most recent strategic plan for Indiana University, there is an emphasis not only in increasing the number of international students, but also in increasing levels of support for these students. The strategic plan includes “position[ing] our international students for academic success by aligning our student and residential services, course availability, and advising with their needs” (Robel, 2014). The proposed Global Hoosiers Program is a first year experience program designed to support international students in their academic and personal transitions during their first year at Indiana University. Co-sponsored by Indiana University’s Office of First Year Experience Programs (FYE), Office of Student Ethics (OSE), and Office of International Services (OIS), the Global Hoosiers Program incorporates services from each of these offices to meet the needs of international students during their first year at Indiana University and recognize them as integral members of the Hoosier community.
There are three main pillars of the Global Hoosiers Program: Fall semester courses, year-long peer mentoring, and monthly community building activities.
